Crane Hawk (Geranospiza caerulescens)
Adult at Wallerfield, Trinidad, c. 10 March 2002. Photo © by Richard Shirley (pointed out by Mahase Ramlal). First record for Trinidad and Tobago. This elusive individual (possibly more than one) was first found by Jogie Ramlal at Wallerfield on 9 December 2000. It has been seen there sporadically and has also been reported from the Aripo Livestock Station and Nariva Swamp. Note the white crescent across the base of the primaries of the flying bird, which is diagnostic of this species, and the dark bill, red eye, unbarred underparts and red legs, which distinguish this species from Gray Hawk (Asturina nitida).
