Maguari Stork (Ciconia maguari)

Moderately oiled immature at Orange Valley, Trinidad, 17 August 2001 (A) and 18 August 2001 (B-D). Photos © by Floyd Hayes (A) and Courtenay Rooks (B-D). First record for T&T, found by Martyn Kenefick. The pale head feathers distinguish this South American species from the Wood Stork (Mycteria americana). Variability in bill and leg colouration is presumably attributable to variable light and background conditions. This elusive bird was present from 17 August to 23 September 2001.
