First-winter immature at Carli Bay, Trinidad, 14 December 1997 (A; TTRBC 1999-63). Photo © by Floyd Hayes. Initially found by Graham White and Floyd Hayes, what may have been the same bird was seen at Waterloo on 1 March 1998. First-winter immature at San Fernando, Trinidad, 27 January 2001 (B-C), with Laughing Gulls (L. atricilla; B); this bird was present until 22 April 2001. Photos © by Floyd Hayes. Note the pale grey mantle and relatively thin, short bill with a black terminal 'ring'. Both birds retained some juvenile wing feathers and had a broad, dark, terminal band on the tail.
Second-winter immature at San Fernando, Trinidad, 17 November 2001. Photos © by Floyd Hayes. This bird, which may be the same individual in photos A-B above, had only a few dark smudges on the tail.
