Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus)
Adult at Warren, Trinidad, 13 September 2001. Photo © by Floyd Hayes. Second record for T&T and first documented. Found by Martyn Kenefick on 12 September 2001, two birds were relocated the following day; our last report is from 1 October 2001. Note the yellow eyes and absence of conspicuous tufts, which distinguish this species from the dark-eyed Striped Owl (Asio clamator), resident on Tobago. The first report of Short-eared Owl from Trinidad was on 4 October 1998 at Wallerfield by Frank Gallo and Jogie Ramlal, but no details have been received.
