least four partially buried eggs at Red Hook, St. Thomas, 6 February
2003. Photos © by Floyd Hayes (A and C) and Brett Hayes (B). This
species was basically unrecorded in the Virgin Islands for several
decades but its numbers have apparently increased within the past
decade, with breeding confirmed on all three major islands in the past
few years. In 2003 up to 10 were seen in a day in St. Thomas and
breeding was confirmed at four sites. |
